JEE Main 2023: key findings

  1. 1

34% of the 2023 questions were easy and 15% hard.

  2. 2

25% tested an idea no earlier analysed year had asked.

  3. 3

57% repeated an exact idea from 2022, the analysed year before.

  4. 4

Three Dimensional Geometry came 2.5 times a shift (per 25 Maths questions; this year's papers had 30), against its usual 1.8.

  5. 5

The d- and f-Block Elements came 0.6 times a shift, well under its usual 1.2.

  6. 6

The busiest topic was Permutations and Combinations (Permutations and Combinations): 24 questions across 12 of the 12 shifts.

Every 2023 shift

24 shifts held, 12 analysed

Each shift is a separate paper. Lumi analyses a shift when NTA published the full paper and its final answer key; 12 2023 papers were never published.

Repetition and surprises

What came back, and what moved

Repeats count against every earlier analysed year. Chapter moves are questions a shift, per 25 questions a subject, against the chapter's own average across the analysed years.

What 2023 asked, and its history

Every chapter the 12 analysed 2023 shifts asked, with all its topics and ideas. Counts and squares cover every analysed year; rows 2023 did not ask are faded. Each row lists its 2023 questions with the most recent from other years; open a shift for the full question text.

Squares are the 8 years with analysed shifts, 2017 to 2026. A number is the questions that year when there is more than one; the shade is scaled to one shift, so a year with more analysed shifts (1 to 24 a year) does not look darker. Share is of the level above.

Questions

About JEE Main 2023

How many JEE Main 2023 shifts are analysed here?
12 of the 24 shifts held in 2023. Lumi analyses a shift when NTA published the full paper and its final answer key. It covers 108 of the 174 JEE Main shifts held from 2017 to 2026 (9,285 Paper 1 questions), not every shift.
Was JEE Main 2023 harder than 2022?
By Lumi's rating, 15% of the analysed 2023 questions were hard against 14% in 2022, and 34% easy against 33%. Difficulty is a rating, so read small changes as noise.
Which chapters came most in JEE Main 2023?
Three Dimensional Geometry (36), Conic Sections (28), Coordination Compounds (28), Current Electricity (24), Vector Algebra (24), across the 12 analysed shifts.
