JEE Main 2021: key findings

  1. 1

34% of the 2021 questions were easy and 10% hard (the hard share was the lowest of the eight years analysed).

  2. 2

67% tested an idea no earlier analysed year had asked.

  3. 3

32% repeated an exact idea from 2020, the analysed year before.

  4. 4

Oscillations came 1.2 times a shift (per 25 Physics questions; this year's papers had 30), against its usual 0.7.

  5. 5

Haloalkanes and Haloarenes came 0.8 times a shift, well under its usual 1.5.

  6. 6

The busiest topic was Definite Integral Properties (Integrals): 31 questions across 23 of the 24 shifts.

Every 2021 shift

30 shifts held, 24 analysed

Each shift is a separate paper. Lumi analyses a shift when NTA published the full paper and its final answer key; 3 2021 papers were never published.

What 2021 asked, and its history

Every chapter the 24 analysed 2021 shifts asked, with all its topics and ideas. Counts and squares cover every analysed year; rows 2021 did not ask are faded. Each row lists its 2021 questions with the most recent from other years; open a shift for the full question text.

Squares are the 8 years with analysed shifts, 2017 to 2026. A number is the questions that year when there is more than one; the shade is scaled to one shift, so a year with more analysed shifts (1 to 24 a year) does not look darker. Share is of the level above.

Questions

About JEE Main 2021

How many JEE Main 2021 shifts are analysed here?
24 of the 30 shifts held in 2021. Lumi analyses a shift when NTA published the full paper and its final answer key. It covers 108 of the 174 JEE Main shifts held from 2017 to 2026 (9,285 Paper 1 questions), not every shift.
Was JEE Main 2021 harder than 2020?
By Lumi's rating, 10% of the analysed 2021 questions were hard against 11% in 2020, and 34% easy against 27%. Difficulty is a rating, so read small changes as noise.
Which chapters came most in JEE Main 2021?
Conic Sections (65), Integrals (54), Three Dimensional Geometry (52), Amines (47), Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations (43), across the 24 analysed shifts.
