JEE Main 2024: key findings

  1. 1

36% of the 2024 questions were easy and 12% hard.

  2. 2

23% tested an idea no earlier analysed year had asked.

  3. 3

39% repeated an exact idea from 2023, the analysed year before.

  4. 4

Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques came 2.7 times a shift (per 25 Chemistry questions; this year's papers had 30), against its usual 1.6.

  5. 5

The busiest topic was d-Block Elements (The d- and f-Block Elements): 33 questions across 16 of the 18 shifts.

Every 2024 shift

20 shifts held, 18 analysed

Each shift is a separate paper. Lumi analyses a shift when NTA published the full paper and its final answer key; 2 2024 papers were never published.

Repetition and surprises

What came back, and what moved

Repeats count against every earlier analysed year. Chapter moves are questions a shift, per 25 questions a subject, against the chapter's own average across the analysed years.

Squares are the 8 years with analysed shifts, 2017 to 2026. A number is the questions that year when there is more than one; the shade is scaled to one shift, so a year with more analysed shifts (1 to 24 a year) does not look darker. Share is of the level above.

    Questions

    About JEE Main 2024

How many JEE Main 2024 shifts are analysed here?
18 of the 20 shifts held in 2024. Lumi analyses a shift when NTA published the full paper and its final answer key. It covers 108 of the 174 JEE Main shifts held from 2017 to 2026 (9,285 Paper 1 questions), not every shift.
Was JEE Main 2024 harder than 2023?
By Lumi's rating, 12% of the analysed 2024 questions were hard against 15% in 2023, and 36% easy against 34%. Difficulty is a rating, so read small changes as noise.
Which chapters came most in JEE Main 2024?
Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques (58), Conic Sections (45), Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure (42), Current Electricity (41), Integrals (40), across the 18 analysed shifts.
