JEE Main 28 June 2022, Shift 1, Physics Q57

Question 57 of 90 in this shift, Physics question 27 of 30, Section B.

A hanging mass M is connected to a four times bigger mass by using a string-pulley arrangement, as shown in the figure. The bigger mass is placed on a horizontal ice-slab and being pulled by 2 Mg force. In this situation, tension in the string is x5\frac{x}{5} Mg for x = ____________. Neglect mass of the string and friction of the block (bigger mass) with ice slab. (Given g = acceleration due to gravity)

The figure, in words

A block of mass 4M on a horizontal ice slab, pulled to the left by a force labelled 2Mg; a string from the block goes over a pulley at the right edge of the slab to a hanging mass M.
